I am currently homeschooling my two children aged 5 and 10. I was a public school teacher in Australia, teaching Japanese and Social Studies before relocating to New York City. I spent 10 years in NYC, working at Prudential Intercultural helping children adjusting to their new life in NYC or preparing families for a life in Australia. I also worked at the Metropolitan Opera House, as an assistant milliner, a skydiving coach and as and assistant to a photographer.
Since then, I have immersed myself in Montessori education. I received my AMI Primary Certification in Hartford, CT and my AMI Elementary Certification in Colombia, MD. I have worked and observed in various schools around the country. I have great respect for the great work of Dr Maria Montessori who worked tirelessly on behalf of the child and whose insights were way ahead of her time (even now).
I believe that true education occurs spontaneously in the present moment, where a child’s mind is open and creates deep and meaningful links in response to an experience or interaction. Our incredible imagination gives us unique powers to imagine, invent and solve intricate problems. Our hands are amazing tools that can be taught to do almost anything to bring those creative ideas into being.
Each human being is equipped with a unique set of intelligences and skills. Each child should be in an educational environment where these intelligences and skills are supported, where aptitudes and inclinations are discovered and developed and where ideas are conceived and manifested into a reality so they can be shared.
My role is to inspire and facilitate. I am blessed to be in the position to do this for my children.
