Playaways
I was in the library yesterday and came across Playaways. They are audio books prerecorded on a device displayed in a video sized case. The actually player is the size of a small cell phone and it’s on a string you can wear around your neck. You can plug in headphones or have it played through the radio/CD player in the car.
I have an aux outlet in my truck that I can just plug it into, but in our Toyoto Sienna, there is no aux plug and no tape recorder slot. If you have a tape player you can buy one of those tapes with a cable connected that plugs into devices like these and you can listen through the tape player. Unfortunately I’d have to buy an expensive kit in order to listen to a Playaway in this car. We will have to use books on CD here.
With the Playaway I like the idea that you can start and stop easily and restart at the place you left off. I like how I could take it with me if I didn’t want to stop listening while running an errand. On the other hand there are not many Playaways at the library and I didn’t see anything that really grabbed me. I ended up getting one on meditation. I could only listen for about 10 minutes.
I think this could be a solution in the car on trips as the kids could have their own Playaway selection and listen with headphones.
