Which flu?
On Sunday morning Chuckles woke up very sleepy and head-achy. She wanted to stay in bed but after some Motrin thought that she could handle visiting horses. While we were there she had to sit in the shade as she became too tired to stand up. On Monday she was a worse with a fever, coughing, head-achy, sore stomach and having trouble getting up. I took her to the doctor.
We ruled out Strep. Lyme disease he thought was unlikely as we hadn’t seen a tick. Her spleen wasn’t enlarged, and her throat wasn’t very red so it probably wasn’t mono which left the flu. So the question is…which flu?
Today she has fevers and chills, is very sleepy and can’t get out of bed, has a sore stomach, doesn’t want to eat, a headache and a mildly sore throat.
I thought we had better go and have the quick results Swine Flu test at the hospital. Apparently they don’t do them anymore and this meant another trip to her doctor (35 minutes away). I didn’t want to move her so the doctor sent the nurse here to collect the nasal mucus sample to send off. I love her doctor. It will take 3-4 days to get the results. Hopefully she will be better by then.
She has never had the flu before and it seems so weird getting the flu in summer. I think she may have picked it up at sleep away camp. I guess with the camp food and no parent reminders about good hygiene, it is more likely children will get sick at camp than in the home environment.
Well, said the nurse, if it is Swine Flu at least she will have some immunity to it when the second wave hits. That is some consolation.
(…and I still think it could be Lyme disease so if these symptoms don’t go away soon…I’m going to start going down that road.)
