H.O.R.S.E. Shelter

On Sunday Chuckles and I worked at the H.O.R.S.E. shelter in Washington, CT.  Armed with carrots and big smiles we took care of five horses.

H.O.R.S.E. stands for Humane Organization Representing Suffering Equines. This organization was founded 27 years ago and is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused and neglected horses.

Once a horse is physically and mentally rehabilitated, they begin the process of seeking an adoptive home. This organization is completely run by volunteers.

Once you are ”shown the ropes” you can go groom and bring treats to the horses. If you like you can sponsor a horse by donating $50/month for its care. Then you can treat the horse as your own special one by grooming and visiting it up to 4 times/month.

Chuckles loves this place. She is attached to the horses, each of which has a sad story of abuse. Some have been in the circus and become lame, others are race horses with sway back or broken legs, others are rescued from the Premarin factories. Some were found starved almost to death. Now everyone of them is gently looked after by soft spoken, loving humans.

Chuckles immediately wanted to sponsor a horse out of her savings. I think it is a wonderful idea to volunteer and give in the area of your passion.
