Girl germs

Speed and I had breakfast this morning at the local diner.  I was paying, when suddenly he went to the door of the diner and opened it.  In walked a retired police officer, his daughter (my age) and their 8 year old daughter.  My son held the door open.  I could see him out of the corner of my eye.  I was thinking…oh good…he is being polite.

The next minute I am walking through the door and he is still holding it and looking at this 8 year old and the mother gives me a surprised look which I didn’t “get” at all.   I just said…come on Speed, let’s go.  I asked him what had happened and he said.

Speed:  Oh Mom, she was just so     so      beautiful.  Not the mother.

Me:  The girl, right.

Speed:  I just had to give her three whistles.

Me: Excuse me!!!!!

Speed:  I had to give her 3 whistles.

Me:  What do you mean 3 whistles?

Speed: He then whistled a very faint wolf whistle.

No wonder the mother was surprised.

I am thinking…where did he learn that?  I can’t blame school!

Also shouldn’t he be less interested in girls by now.  What happened to the concept of girl germs or boy germs or is that something perpetuated by parents and schools to stop kids from hooking up?

I asked him how old he thought the girl was and he said that he hadn’t actually measured her so he could only guess. Maybe 5…she was at least 8!

I am going to have to buy a comb for his back pocket!

Maybe that is what he learned at day one of summer day camp last week?!?

Girl germs not happening anymore. In my town’s public schools they have boyfriends and girlfriends in grade 3 and 4 including kissing on school grounds. The role models for this are the Jake & Josh show and Zach and Cody and others that glorify dating. I walked in on a Josh episode where the teen was full on making out with his girlfriend. I was appalled. Some kids I know started watching it when 5.

Another thing is school kids I know say they have a girlfriend but when I inquire more it means they have a crush on a girl but in two cases the boys told me (when I asked) that they don’t even SPEAK to the girl. So when they go around saying they have a girlfriend it is not always what we adults think. LOL.
