Blank keyboard

When I was teaching in a Montessori Elementary classroom in Virginia, most of the students were learning to type.  As the children learned each letter on the keyboard, the keys were covered over in duct tape.  By the end of the year, all the letters were completely covered over.  I thought it was brilliant.  Ever since then I have wanted to get a blank keyboard.

I stumbled across this one.  It just looks so naked.  I love it.

Combined with a fun game I think 5-6 year olds would learn the keyboard in no time.  It would be nice if they made a smaller one for young children so they could position their fingers correctly.  Maybe I just haven’t found it.

We happen to like a free typing program put out by the BBC in England.  I love the Scottish goat but the whole program is entertaining and effective. My kids like it too, but perseverance is the key and then of course, not peeking at the letters.

    how very contemporary looking!

We own typing tutor. I need to make my kids do it for 10-15 minutes a day to have them learn keyboarding. That is one thing that always gets forgotten on the HS plans. Oh well.
