A big black bear!
Yesterday I was in the car 9 hours. I drove to Pennsylvania to pick up Chuckles. I was amazed at the abundance of wildlife. I saw 9 deer, 1 skunk, 3 rabbits, 1 mole and 1 large black bear, the latter 200 yards from the entrance of my daughters camp! It was in the middle of the road (dirt track). I stopped 100 yards in front and when it saw me it started heading towards to side of the road. I quickly looked for my camera. Not finding it I grabbed my cell phone. Note to self: This is not the time to explore the camera feature. I took a couple of shots but instead of clicking on the LHS button to save I kept pressing the RHS side button which is the do you want to erase? I wanted to look at the bear and now it was lumbering off the edge of the road and making his way into the woods. I so wanted a picture. My first bear sighting.
North American wildlife sightings are exciting for me. (A little different than kangaroos, emus and quokkas) We also have a couple of foxes that visit the neighborhood daily here at the new house.
No…I don’t think they have rabies.
Chuckles absolutely, positively, LOVED camp. She begged for me to extend it but there was no way I was going to return home without my girl. She has started negotiating for a 1 month stay next year. She came back fit and tanned, bouncing with joy and aliveness so it is hard to argue that it wasn’t good for her. She did say that she decided not to sleep out on the “Survive in the Wilderness” Clinic, preferring a comfy bed to a sleeping bag in the woods…and after seeing that bear I was kind of glad. She did a Hip-Hop clinic instead and any time I’m not looking she practices her new moves!
Speed turned 6. Yippee! He has been putting together Lego since 7am this morning! Happy birthday, my son! And I’ve got to go and get his birthday cake out of the oven!

I’m glad to hear that Chuckles had a fantastic time!
