Sleep Away Camp

My husband and I are letting Chuckles go to sleep away camp.   We are so worried about it that I am not sure she is going to make the full 2 weeks, no fault of her own.  I guess we are training for when she leaves to go for college.  It will be very difficult.  We are anticipating empty nest syndrome except for the fact that we will still have our very active little Speed who will be in mourning over the loss of his big sister.

There is so much to do.  It is now officially summer and even though I think things should be more relaxed, it isn’t actually the case.  My to do list is out of control.  I really want to be reading Ken Wilbur’s book, A Brief History of Everything which I am loving as it is just so inclusive.  I am pondering the bits and pieces I’m getting to read inbetween the things on my list (like at traffic lights.)  Don’t tell anyone I do that.  Not with kids in the car.

Anyway, it is an eye opening book that changes everything.

Camp was a HUGE success.  The kids loved it.  I had to pick them up early today as Chuckles had a swim test for her sailing camp and Speed had his first class for Destination Imagination.

Speed’s little team learnt about duct tape (made by Duck?)  or is it Duck tape?  We found ducts! in my friends house and inspected the tape.  We had a roll of it and they learnt how to rip it without scissors.  LOVE!  Then they had to make a boat out of newspaper and make it seaworthy with duct tape.  Speed made a perfect little boat that held 15 big nails.  He was thrilled.

Speed’s team will eventually have to make a large sculpture out of newspaper and duct tape and make a newspaper article about it (or something similar), so they are learning the skills.  (Everything you can do with duct tape and newspaper!)

Chuckles and her team had to sort out all of the new Lego League lego and put it into fishing tackle boxes.

Tomorrow we dismantle our furniture and prepare to move out of the cabin.
