Post Office
Speed loves teenage girls. He always has. “They are so beautiful,” he says dreamily.
Today in the post office it was Speed’s job to pick up the packages. We waited in line. He tried to stay still but had to practise standing on one foot, in order to remain anywhere near the line. (Waiting is not his forte!) Our turn came. I had to lift Speed up as he will have to grow another foot to see over the counter. Our packages were retrieved. Two large boxes. One for me and the other for him.
We were lugging these boxes out of the post office when Speed spots a teenager in line.
Speed: Hi. Over here. (He puts the box down and motions to the girl)
Speed: Hi, my name is Speed. (He flings out his hand and she shyly shakes it.)
Teen Girl: Hi Speed. My name is Jody.
Speed to me: Mom…I met Jody!
Speed to Jody: I’m five years old. How old are you?
Jody: I’m 16.
Speed: I have a sister. Her name is Chuckles and in 6 years she will be 16!
Jody: Oh! That’s nice.
Speed: I’m sorry, I have to go but I’ll see you again, right?!
Jody: I hope so.
(Speed picks up his box.)
Speed: I met a really nice girl. I’ll miss her.
Mom: I know!
