Pony Races
Every Tuesday Chuckles’ good friend has been coming over after school for pony races. They make their own stick horses to race and even make special horses for Speed so he doesn’t knock over their jumps. They organize a competition and beg my husband to come home early from work to judge it.
Today they had six different classes of competition in their pony races including, dressage, cross country, walk/trot/canter, short stirrup, barrels and show jumping.
They gathered all sorts of found items to make the courses that they carefully designed and rehearsed.
Each class is judged and recorded as in a regular horse show. My husband puts on his best “judge” voice. At the end of each class, the points are added up and the children line up to receive their hand- made medals. They have an absolute blast. The older children know that the scoring is rigged so that their little brother is not too disappointed with the results. They are fiercely competing with each other!
You would think their ponies were real. They all have names, personalities and capabilities. Some are more comfortable to ride on than others and other ponies need a LOT of training! They have indoor and outdoor ponies and they trade them, paying horse dollars, a currency they devised. It’s fun to watch them play.
