Facing the Mess

I sent them off to Summer Camp at the Y.  It’s a great camp.  A string of fun activities from rope courses, swimming, lego … and a ton more in 45 minute increments.  They were put in small groups of about 6-7 children with 2 counselors.  Still I was worried about Speed sneaking off.  I warned the 2, 16 year olds teenagers about my son liking to explore away from the group.  Tim and Kevin who were gorgeous and attentive, put my mind at ease.

I have to say Speed would have preferred two teenage girls as his counselors but it wasn’t long before he was showing off his “Transformer” moves, chumming with his new best friends and just being a boy.

It felt weird leaving them at camp.  A couple of times I had to remind myself they were at camp and I hadn’t lost them!  Where are the kids?!!! Oh, that’s right, at camp… and now I have to clean up the mess.

Yes.  The mess!

I’m sure most homeschoolers are very neat and organized.

This year has been a year of exploration for me, making endless Montessori materials and grand projects.  Bits of projects decorate my house at any one time!  Also in subjects I get hooked into I tend to buy “stuff” which I am sure I am going to use, then take it out of the box, spread it out and then get distracted with life…and somehow find myself not having time to use it.

Then there are the usually piles of stuff that I’d love to delve into but there is just not time.  Let alone the books I want to read, programs I want to learn, courses I want to take and of course paintings I want to paint, photographs waiting to be photoshopped, and so on it goes.  I am grateful for the endless possibilities, of course, but right now I am drowning in the possibilities and need to organize and prioritize.

This is happening this week.  But not before I see The Hangover!

P.S.  Camp was a huge hit.  They can’t wait to go back.  They both found some friends and Speed lost his first tooth! I am looking in wonder at this little bottom tooth that has travelled with Speed for almost 6 years, ground flat on the top.  My little baby is growing up.

I know!!!!!both of them are growing up too fast…In barely 12 years, both of them will be off…not enough time!!! If we could only freeze them…And to think others miss out on all of this…what richness, what depth of emotion. Thank you, thank you, thank you…
