The Thinking Mother

I have been really enjoying reading the Thinking Mother’s Website.  She doesn’t know me but we live in the same county.  I almost feel like baking some brownies and taking them to her if I knew where she is living exactly.  I know that it is not next door…and she is a traditional homeschooler and into Charlotte Mason …so maybe she lives in Stamford?

Apart from her homeschooling website, she  has a creative website and on it I found this little gem.  I love creative people and this is inspiring me to learn to draw.

I’ll have to book into some drawing classes at Silvermine!

LOL I’m the subject of a blog post. I’m flattered!

I linked through after you left a comment on my blog today.

I am sure some of your HS mom friends know me, some go to Cranbery. It is only a matter of time before we meet I am sure.

Send me a private email now that you have my email address. Maybe sometime you can come to the park day closer to my house. I believe also that my younger son’s two standing appt’s for guitar lesson & speech therapy clash with the Cranbery time/day of week so that has prevented me from going to that park day.

Just to clarify I will share that my DH brought up HSing when I was 6 months PG with baby #1. I didn’t even know anyone did that in CT at that time. Three moms I knew for about 6 months through La Leche League I then found out HSed. I was shocked. So when first was just a baby I started reading and read a lot including tons of back issues of John Holt’s magazine Growing Without Schooling and Home Education Magazine and every Holt book and all of John Taylor Gatto’s. I was first an unschooling mom not a “traditional homeschooler’.

In grade 1 for older son I switched to Charlotte Mason pretty strictly with influences from The Well Trained Mind (TWTM). It worked great for a couple of years.

With my precocious younger son I did what seemed right and what he begged for which violated the recommendations of Miss Mason and even Susan Wise Bauer (gasp).

Since my older son was diagnosed with an LD in early 2008 I had to switch things up even more so moved away from some of the CM method and still adapt TWTM. We are eclectic at this point I guess. I very much still follow my children’s leads so I don’t know, some unschooling moms say I am unschooling yet I know others who say if the mother imposes anything upon the child the label can’t apply. It just depends on how much one applies the label of “unschooling” vs. “radical unschooling”. And that is why now I hate labels anyway. I don’t like to be pigeon holed.

I wonder if our kids go to the same Wilderness School???

I would love to come for a BBQ and to meet you…

Also if you go to the CHN conference next week I’m speaking about matching curriculum to your unique child….
