No Child Left Inside
Today, Chuckles, Speed and I went to Squantz Pond to take part in the No Child Left Inside 2009 Park Pursuit. It is a program organized by the State to encourage families to get out to the State parks and enjoy nature. This event occurs over 7 weekends, the first of which was today. We had to arrive between 9-3 and check in our team and get our arm bands and participate in at least one activity.
We were completely delighted when we arrived at the park. It was so beautiful with undulating lawns, old, leafy trees
and a large beach enticing you to jump into the lake! The surrounding hills and woods were lush and cocooned the pond and we couldn’t believe we had never visited this magnificant place before.
There were many interesting activities for the children to do including these:
- Tent pitching
- Relay races with lifeguards
- The long jump
- Canoe races
- Ball tossing through hoops
- Hiking
- Barrel painting
It was a lot of fun. Between now and next Friday you can visit the website and get clues as to where the next park event is going to be held next weekend. We are going to do our research and try and guess…of course they’ll tell you the night before just in case you are completely stumped.
Before the next event we are going to make our own team T-shirts. That’s right…we have a team name: Team Too Much Fun! We were impressed with the creativity of our fellow nature lovers!
Apparently, we can also get bonus points if we visit Wier Farm in Wilton! (a very convenient location for us)
Even if you didn’t enter the Park Pursuit you can still come to the events…if you have a free hour on the weekend!
