Family Time
One of the nicest aspects to homeschooling is constantly being with your children. Don’t worry…I still remember being so relieved dropping them off at school because it was such a drama getting them there in the first place….and then finally I had a 3 hour window for myself. I remember putting the keys in the ignition and feeling that “life is good” feeling. My life was divided up into little windows of me time, me and the children time, me and my husband time and constant errands.
Now, homeschooling, I am pretty much with my children all the time and rather than dreaming about the potential of “my time”, I don’t think about it at all. All time has gone into this big pot of family love and we are all just doing our thing. Errands turn into learning experiences and we are constantly trying to make sure each others needs are met.
So tonight I organized a party with my friends and invited them to bring their children. I told my children that there was going to be a party tonight and they just jumped right in. I’ll make strawberry short cake for dessert! I’ll make baked apples and ice cream. Papa can do the BBQ.
I’ll make the salad and veggies, I said!
They did the grocery shopping, scanning their ingredients for their dishes. They came home and helped each other prepare their masterpieces. They helped set the table. They changed into nice clothes and put on music.
I felt so supported by my children in this endeavour.
That level of caring for eachother and working as a team with my children instead of just for my children has been an incredible gift to me this year. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to homeschool.
